US$ 90m dual carriage road to be constructed in Eldoret, Kenya

Posted on : Monday , 29th September 2014

Eldoret is set for an infrastructural change with construction of a US$ 90m dual carriage road. Members of the County Assembly in Uasin Gishu County approved the project, which is expected to commence as soon as the survey currently being done, is complete.

The road will link Eldoret town to Eldoret International Airport passing through the Kisumu road to the town centre, Chepkoilel junction to Iten Road. The length of the road has been put at 25km.

The County’s Governor, Jackson Mandago also added that two by-passes will also be constructed in the town. The southern by-pass will link Iten road and the main Uganda road through Moi Girls in Eldoret. The other by-pass is going to link Kamukunji and Huruma estates to avert traffic from the town’s CBD.

This is a move set to increase traffic flow and also improve the country’s rate of development. Residents living along the southern by-pass are going to be compensated by the Kenya Highway’s authority to enable construction works that are to kick off by the end of the year.

The road construction project is going to be funded by the national government, along with the support of the county government. Already, machines worth US$ 7m have been bought by the county government, which will be used for maintenance of these roads once conduction works have been completed.
